About Adam Kuenzel

Adam Kuenzel’s career as a flutist has spanned several orchestral positions, numerous concerto roles, premieres by living composers, and academic appointments. Since 1990, Adam Kuenzel has held the principal flute chair with the Minnesota Orchestra.

In addition to performing feature roles in concerti with the Minnesota Orchestra, Adam Kuenzel has appeared as a guest soloist with several other orchestras. Adam Kuenzel has performed the Cecile Chaminade Concertino and Franz Doppler’s Hungarian Pastoral Fantasy with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra. Adam Kuenzel has also appeared with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. With his home orchestra in Minneapolis, Adam Kuenzel has performed Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, John Corigliano’s Pied Piper Fantasy, and the Ibert, Otaka, and Nielsen flute concerti.

Adam Kuenzel has participated in festivals such as the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, the Sunriver Music Festival, and the Oregon Bach Festival. Adam Kuenzel has also taught at the Aspen Music Festival and School and held an adjunct faculty position with the University of Minnesota.

When not performing, Adam Kuenzel possesses a passion for cycling and has participated in rigorous, long-distance rides. Adam Kuenzel is also a member of the Minneapolis-based Birchwood Bike Team and is an active yoga practitioner. Some of Adam Kuenzel’s favorite authors include Truman Capote, Jhumpa Lahiri, Dan Millman, and Monica Woelfel.
